Apple is one of the most successful companies in today’s technology era. All of my articles are saying how Apple is trying to stay on top of the market by releasing new products and always trying to stay one step ahead of the game. My articles are mainly discussing upcoming arrivals and if it is the right time for apple to release all of these products after the Iphone 5 did not have the best results as they would have liked. The I phone 6 is supposed to be coming out during 2013, and is said to have a clear screen but then says it is not exactly possible to have the kind of screen and that was just a dream. The iPad 5 is said to have a bigger and clearer screen, upload pictures faster, and take better pictures as well. The iPad mini 2 is supposed to be better than the first and include a longer battery life, more portable, and have better resolution. All of these upcoming inventions can relate back to the Civil war because the North was always trying to stay one step ahead of the game and always trying to think ahead so they would have a chance of winning. During the Civil War, the telegraph and the railroads in the North helped transport messages, strategies, and contribute ideas that could put them at an advantage over the South. These ideas worked in their favor and helped them win the war.
I agree with Allison on her whole prompt and I have to say the iPhone 5 is much more faster and lighter then the iPhone 4s and other generations. Yes the iPhone 5 has better resoultion than the iPhone 4s. Apple is always one step ahead, just how the North was.
This is basically the same thing that i researched. I also found out about the same new releases from apple and i think that your relation to the Civil War was very good and really had me questioning my answer!!
These three articles are all news articles from 2013. They each have to do with a new technological product by apple that is said to be released some time later in 2013. These new products include an iPad5, iPad Min i2, and iPhone6. The iPad5 is said to be smaller than the former iPads, other than the iPadmini. It will have the same size screen as the preceding iPads, but the sides will be smaller, leaving it to look like a stretched out iPadmini. The iPad Mini 2 is predicted to be almost the same as the regular iPadmini. The only thing that will be different is that it will have a higher and better resolution screen. Also, it will be available in a 128GB version. Finally, the iPhone6 was spotted in China and a blogger posted about it on his blog.
These new technological advances will help many people with the simple and complex things that they do in their everyday life. This is similar to the civil war because of the invention of the telegraph. Lincoln used the telegraph all the time to send messages to the battle fields during the wars. This was very helpful for him and the north and eventually led them to victory!
Many people find Apple to be the most successful company in the world. However, others say Apple’s days are numbered. I feel that Apple can survive if they just fix their products. Apple still has a chance at surviving as a valuable company because they just need to fix their products, they already sell a lot of products, and they’re the leading PC/tablet maker. Apple continues to make newer versions of its products. One of its newest products, the iPhone5, however, suffers from minor errors, so people continue to buy older iPhones. The iPhone5 release made sales plummet. People prefer their older iPhones. Apple still makes money from the PC and tablet sales. Apple makes twice as many PCs as its nearest competitor, HP, selling 27,000,000 in the last quarter of 2012, and earning about $31 million. They’re still number one and fixing the iPhone5 would make it even better. In the 1860s, technology, like railroads and telegraphs, was embraced and many people used it as it was introduced. Apple can still be a valuable company because their products only have a few small errors, they sell other products, and they’re the leading PC/tablet maker. Their days aren’t numbered. Their products help America.
These three articles all involve technology, describing the different ways technology has involved our country and how major laws/bills still need to be passed to improve the internet. In article one President Obama talks about the cyber-crime bill that is in process of being passed. In article two it talks about how President Obama is looking to advance the school education by making the high schools more technologically advanced. In the third article it talks about how the Austrian politicians are dealing with facebook posts, about nazi ideology. Throughout all the articles they describe how technology is affecting and also improving our country. Even through there are still downsides to the technology world. Back when technology was just being introduced many people didn’t know how technology would evolve. Whereas today citizens over the United States have to be aware of the advancing technology and be aware of what they post or say over the internet.
My three articles are about multiple things; the first one revolves around the education of kids, and how technology is slowly becoming a part of it, and how it can help children around the ages of 3-7 who have learning disabilities. My second article is about finding the cures to cancer, and how large of a role technology plays in it, and how it can also bring the patient and the doctor on a more friendly level with one another. And my third article is about the 2013 election in Kenya, and how technology is going to help arrest the recent slide into violence over the fights of the presidential debate. I believe that these things relate back to the Civil War because it helps to show how much technology has evolved over the years, and how much we depend on it now. Lincoln depended on the telegraph to deliver war news quicker than a messenger on horseback would; he also depended on the railroad systems to send out fresh troops to the warfront instead of having them travel on foot. Technology has been an aspect in our lives ever since the Industrial Age began to bloom, and now it plays major roles all over the world, whether it be in education, medicine, or politics.
**In reply to Tori Rest** (when i clicked reply nothing happened)
I agree with you Tori. My article was about the release dates and the upgrades in the ipad 5,and the iphone 5-6. We both agreed this can be compared to the use of telegraphs and the North being a step ahead. Good comparison!
different websites that I am using http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn23221-first-mindreading-implant-gives-rats-telepathic-power.html http://www.popsci.com/cars/article/2013-03/first-factory-produced-hydrogen-cars-roll-out http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/06/business/media/news-corp-has-a-tablet-for-schools.html?ref=technology&_r=0
My three articles talk about some new technological advancements. Specifically they talk about a hydrogen-powered car, a mind reading implant giving rats telepathic power, and tablets being used in schools. The hydrogen-powered car will produce only water in the exhaust because they will use an ix35 fuel cell which is supposed to be released in 2015. This would be a very good improvement especially for the environment because we will not have all of that gas coming out of our cars and we will instead have water. The telepathic power for rats while using a mind reading implant is interesting because it is the first brain to brain connection. This would be useful in the future to not have to talk for someone to know what we are thinking. My last article talks about the company Amplify which has just announced that they will not only sell their curriculum on existing tablets but they will also offer tablets to schoolchildren. I think this would be good for learning because the kids could learn the standard curriculum in class but could look over it at home if they are having any trouble. They could also use this to catch up or to learn when they are sick. These technological advancements are like how the transcontinental railroad was at the time which was opening up new opportunities for what people could do with their lives. They can follow the old ways or they can welcome and use new innovations.
Many new inventions are made each day in the world and these articles talked about technological advancements. Another topic is the company Amplify which has just announced that they will not only sell their curriculum on existing tablets but they will also offer tablets to schoolchildren. This would be good for learning because the kids could learn the standard curriculum in class but could look over it at home if they are having any trouble. They could also use this to catch up or to learn when they are sick. The world is advancing everyday more and more, making new and improved technology. All three of my artiles talked about technology advancements our world is making. Prescisely they mention the iPhone 6, the ChargeCard, and the much improved everyday sunglasses. The iPhone 6 will be the best iPhone yet. It will have some awesome new features such as an upgraded camera, sonar, and will be even thiner than the iPhone 5. The Charge Card is a USB charger about as as big as a credit card, but as thin as a tenth of an inch. My other technology advancement is ordinary sunglasses. They will still protect you from the sun, except they will show all the natural colors around you. That means that you won't have to worry about the orange tint from your sunglasses just because that's the lens of your sunglasses. The lens will be clear but it will still protect your eyes from the sunlight. These awesome new technology advancements that will be coming out shortly are a lot like what we are learning about in Social Studies class. The new technology advancement that is happening is the Transcontinental Railroad. People can either except and use the new technology or can stay true to their old life and walk. As you can see technology has played a big role in peoples lives ever since the reconstruction of our country, and will hopefully continue to play a major role in our lives to come.
I had a very similar connection and I thought that it was an accurate and good way to relate your topics to what we are learning about. I think this is a good and interesting blog post.
Thanks Mike. I also read yours and yours was very good as well; I loved the description in yours, and how you connected your topics together. Also I'm glad you thought it was good because I had trouble with finding new things that were being created.
Recently in technology a new plane was developed called the Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet. As amazing as the jet may be it has a few … flaws. There have been many different mishaps with the few flights that were taken. On the first flight there was a battery fire on a flight to Boston from Tokyo. Then a few days later there was a fuel leak on another flight. And after that there were brake problems on yet another. The company is not planning on canceling production and will continue to make the $207 million dollar planes. The largest buyer so far has been Japan who has used the majority of the planes. As of right now the company is not very concerned for it is however a new plane and there are some complications to be expected.
This would connect to our recent studies because like with building the Transcontinental Railroad there were some difficulties and hiccups. During building as we learned in one of the videos in order to get through mountains they had to use very dangerous explosives in order to get through to the other side. While doing so there were many deaths and the lingering possibility of death. There were no deaths involved with the planes but if these incidents continue to occur there might be a chance of death as there was everyday for the people working on the railroad.
I think that this connection of planes to the TCRR. Its unique and I don't think many people would have thought about relating the two. you also have a lot of great detail about the planes and the connection, so overall I think you did a great job!
Thank you it took me a little while to actually come up with what to write about. So I searched the internet for about an hour or two and barely found an article to write about. but thank you very much.
The new trains that are being made are getting faster and faster. Amtrak has recently made a new train that they will be using on their tracks. In my first and second article, it talked about how California and Amtrak worked together to build the new train. They talked about how the old trains were slow and took too long to get places so that’s why they wanted new trains. In the third article, it said that it tested fine and that they will try to use the new trains as soon as possible. This is similar to the Transcontinental Railroads because people were trying to find faster ways to get around and transport their goods. They wanted to get from the East to the West and back as soon as possible so that they could come back and keep on working on their farms or whatever they owned. Everyone wants to be faster and the trains back then were a technological advance like these new trains are for us.
Navigation is becoming easier and easier. Trains in Shanghai are reaching speeds of 500 mile per hour. Cars can park themselves, and now there are things like GPS that tell you where there is traffic and how to avoid it. Going from point A to point B is now done without thinking. Every day there are cars that have a system of sensors so that a car can parallel park the car by themselves. When the Transcontinental Railroad was first being constructed it cut the time to cross the US to around a week or so. It was built so people could be across the country faster than ever before and get back to what they needed to do. In the 1860’s the railroad was a very technological advancement. Now a technological advancement is a train going 500 miles per hour or a car parking itself. People back then had no idea how far advanced we would be today.
Our articles are similar in that they both discuss advancing technology and our connections are similar as well, as they both connect to the Transcontinental Railroad. As you said about it being easier to get from point A to point B, Google has developed a car that drives itself by seeing through cameras. Maybe some of the technology put in cars that can parallel park themselves will one day be advanced enough to make cars drive themselves.
Earlier this week and last week we were learning about The West and how a Railroad system, the Union and the Central Pacific Railroads were created for faster transportation from one place to another connecting the coasts together to be one whole union. From Railroads to cars to a new invention called the Hiriko. The Hiriko is a car designed for two people to reduce their ecological footprints by creating a car with a lot less of pollution and less traffic jams. The vehicle is an electric car designed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that is most likely to be brought into production this year. Three Hiriko cars could be fit into one parking spot which will reduce the overpopulating cities with bad parking spots and traffic jams. The connection between what is happening in the present verse the past is a whole new evolution on transportation needs. Back in the 1800s the railroads, the Union and the Central Pacific railroads were created to speed up transportation and build the economy and connect the coast. By building the railroads, towns and cities grew and an economy was built because of the new technology in the era. The past connects with the present now by how the US has created an entirely new transportation system by the production the Hikiro. By producing the Hikiro it will advance our travel needs, help keep or ecological footprints on a minimal. This electric car will mark the end of the “Made in China Era” because of America’s 21st century evolution.
Our articles are very similar in the fact, that we both explained new ways of transportation today compared to the technology in the 1800’s. We both compared ways of cleaner transportation and how we as a nation can have a smaller environmental footprint. My article was a general over view on how America is finding new alternative energy for a cleaner environment. You gave a specific way that America is trying to promote a cleaner environment, by comparing the railroad to the Hiriko car, that will reduce pollution and traffic jams.
Many people today (whether they be children, teens, or adults) are very reliant on modern technology and new inventions for many things. The first article that is listed above is about new designs to Facebook. They did this in order to simplify the page and make peoples visit to the page more pleasant. The next two articles are about new apps that have been released. One is called Field Trip which is from Google. This app figures out your location by GPS and it recommends places for you to visit (such as museums, art galleries, restaurants, etc.). The final article talks about a second app which is a new way to listen to music. It allows people to share their music with friends and they can create their own personalized “jukebox”, or playlist. These new technological inventions are helpful to many different groups of people in today’s modern world in the same way that new inventions were helpful to homesteaders in the 1800’s. The invention of sod houses gave homesteaders something that they definitely used daily and that was safer for them to live in. Also the invention of the sodbuster helped them to do their daily jobs and reach the soil that was under the sod on the ground. So, in the end technological advances were and are helping many people today and in the 1800’s with many things that they need to do!
I agree with you that new apps and technology are always trying to be created and invented. New inventions are always trying to be made to improve our life. We also observed this during the 1800s and also in our lives today.
Yes, it is true how technology is always trying to improve our lives and it always will help. People will always want to come up with the next great invention!
New technology is happening all the time, new things are being discovered and invented. In the west in the 1800’s people were just discovering the railroad and telegraph. Now we have cars, plains, and many other ways to get from place to place. Our technology is advancing all the time and through the years we have built on the idea of the Transcontinental Railroad and different ways to get from point A to point B. When our country first started finding more efficient of travel we relied on steam powered engines for the trains. Through the years we have made that simple idea, better and more environmentally safe. In the west when they were building the Transcontinental Railroad it was built across the country to make traveling and shipping goods faster. By having this new technology the country began to flourish and expand. As a result much settlement had happened that expanded the country. People have taken the idea of the Transcontinental Railroad and made it so that we could have a less environmental footprint in the future. New technology today has created a clean alternative to the steam powered trains in the 1800’s. This geothermic energy can help the United States leave a smaller environmental footprint in the future, and new resources for future generations, just like the people in the 1800’s did for the generations after them.
Our articles were the same in that we both compared the Transcontinental Railroad to something. I compared it to the Keystone Pipeline which is a super long pipe carrying oil from Canada to Texas. My articles explained that it was a more eco-friendly way to carry oil, as opposed to using trucks, trains, or boats instead. You compared the railroad to a cleaner train. Noth will create new opportunities for the economy and the future.
They are very similar, I agree. I think it's interesting that you compared the Transcontinental Railroad to the Keystone Pipeline but now I see the connection between the two.
Maglev trains are a new kind of train that utilize magnetic levetation. These trains can move at extreme speeds, reaching upwards of 500 kilometers per hour. Originally produced in Japan, these trains are now being installed all across the globe. There are plans to install these trains in the U.S., in cities like Washington D.C. and Atlanta. Soon these trains will be installed all throughout the U.S.
This relates to the building of the Transcontinental Railroad, but with a new kind of train. One that moves about 365 kilometers faster, and is much sleeker, quieter, and more environmentaly friendly. Not to mention its all underground.
If these trains were around in the 1870s, a journey from Phillidelphia to Los Angeles would be halved. All this to say that this modern technology is definantly all around better than that of the Transcontinental Railroad era.
I like how you specified the complete improvement in technology between the 1800s and now. It is interesting that the speed has increased so much due to something as simple as magnetism. I think eventually, the majority of the trains in the U.S. will be powered by magnetism.
As the human race evolves, so does technology. Although it evolves much faster now than in the time period we are studying, it still evolves. The three aforementioned articles talk about new technologies like eye scrolling that are being developed and rolled out in mobile devices; laptops and tablets have combined, forming what Bill Gates says is the perfect combo of functionality and price to be integrated into schools for students to utilize. Also, technology overall has evolved remarkably quickly over the past few years. Tablets have been introduced, smartphones with huge screens have been put on the market, and people still work to make them thinner, lighter, and faster. They work to make breakthroughs which will change the world. Those three articles connect to the United States during the 1860s, when the quickest form of transportation in the country evolved from horse drawn carts to the railroad. The Transcontinental Railroad was built to decrease the time it took to travel across the country. Today, people work to decrease the amount of time it takes a computer or smartphone, for instance, to complete a task. Since the 1860s transportation has evolved to flying, which is much faster than the Transcontinental Railroad. However, it took about 40 years to just make the first flight from the time the railroad was finished. Today, it takes about a year or maybe even less to make a computer faster.
I like the analogy you used at the end, since it is true. Also, just wondering do you think this rapid growth in Technological Sciences beneficial to future generations?
There are many new smartphones out now that are truly revolutionizing the way that we live, such as the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy SIII. Even after they are released, they keep evolving so that they are better than ever and can beat out the other brands. For example, Apple is developing ways that they can improve things such as battery life in their products, and Samsung has developed a new update for the operating system of the Galaxy SIII. These advances in modern technology relate well to the evolution of technology in the post-Civil War era. A major addition to the United States was the Transcontinental Railroad that ran from coast to coast across the country. This served as a way for people to connect with their family that lives in a distant place because before the railroad, they may have not been willing or able to make the journey. These smartphones act in the same way because they allow you to communicate with distant friends and family via phone call, text, facebook, or twitter.
I like how you used the example about being able to interact with friends and family with travel back then and being able to do that much easier today with phones
Yes, there are many new innovations out there that these companies are creating that will truly revolutionize the way that people communicate with each other. I am excited to see if these ideas will be able to become a reality.
In the market for cars, there are many new innovations, but perhaps the most interesting new feature in some cars is that they can drive themselves. A Japanese car company called Hitachi has created a single passenger car that can provide transportation for a person without them having to lift a single finger. The car was designed for people who have trouble walking. Some experts are saying that these new robotic cars could potentially save lives because it removes the factor of human error when it comes to driving. On average a person will have an accident for every 160,000 miles that they drive but robotic cars could reduce that frequency.
This can relate to the new inventions of the 1800’s because robotic cars have the potential to greatly improve the way that we live, and that is what the telephone, typewriter, and automobile did for people back in the 19th century. People no longer had to walk or take wagons when they wanted to travel, instead they could hop in their car, and now after we get into our cars, we no longer even have to steer.
Every day the question on people mind is how can I make something better? In the world of cars and vehicles new technology is making them easier to drive, safer to drive, and even sometimes cars that park and drive themselves. The best new car of 2013 out on the market of now is the Audi A8. This car takes in all of the elements when thinking of making a reliable car with a great safety rating. This relates to the days when Henry Ford was improving cars. Henry Ford was not the first one to invent the car but he was the first person to make a car for the common man. People say that he “perfected” the car so to speak. When Henry Ford was producing his first cars he took into account how I can make a car that is safe, reliable, and also the common man can purchase. This is why Henry Ford was the first person to make the car better using new technology.

We now we have crazy inventions such as extremely light weight iPads, Lamborghinis, and super-fast laptops. All of these inventions are new and even better than the one before them. The newest iPad, which hasn’t been released yet, has a more efficient LED screen and is the slimmest and lightest model yet. However, it is unclear whether Apple will be switching to the more efficient IGZO panels to make the newest model or not. Either way, the new iPad update will be a lot more advanced than the first. As for Dubai’s new police car, it costs about 260,000 dollars and is the newest Lamborghini. The Dubai police use them during daily patrol and they reach speeds up to 217 miles per hour thanks to its V12 engine. The car accelerates in 2.9 seconds, an incredible time. Again, overall this car has greatly improved since its original model. Last but not least, scientists and tech nerds have been researching a new way of getting computers to run faster: changing the spin of electrons in the internal processor. They say that it will be more effective than having external hard drives and more RAM. The new technology in today’s times relate greatly to the technology in the 1800s and 1900s. During that time, the car, the telephone, the camera, the airplane, and many more things were invented. Not only were inventions coming out of nowhere, they were also happening very fast. Nowadays, many people can’t keep up with the new technology, especially if they are part of a generation that didn’t have as much. The technology in that age really helped the people out a lot; it let them communicate with friends and family in other states and travel long distances in a short amount of time. Culture was spread and countries were communicating. Overall, the technological advances in both time period were a lot a like a made the lives of people easier.

Thanks!

ReplyDeleteI agree with you Tori. My article was about the release dates and the upgrades in the ipad 5,and the iphone 5-6. We both agreed this can be compared to the use of telegraphs and the North being a step ahead. Good comparison!

DeleteThese technological advancements are like how the transcontinental railroad was at the time which was opening up new opportunities for what people could do with their lives. They can follow the old ways or they can welcome and use new innovations.

DeleteThis would connect to our recent studies because like with building the Transcontinental Railroad there were some difficulties and hiccups.
DeleteThank you it took me a little while to actually come up with what to write about.

DeleteThis is similar to the Transcontinental Railroads because people were trying to find faster ways to get around and transport their goods. They wanted to get from the East to the West and back as soon as possible so that they could come back and keep on working on their farms or whatever they owned. Everyone wants to be faster and the trains back then were a technological advance like these new trains are for us.
I had a very similar post. I think your connection is great in how it relates to how train technology keeps improving.

DeleteWhen the Transcontinental Railroad was first being constructed it cut the time to cross the US to around a week or so.
DeleteThat would be a very cool invention. To have a car that could drive itself would be amazing.

http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/15/mit-hiriko-foldable-car-16k-pricing/
DeleteOh that's cool, I will defintely check out your article!

DeleteYes, it is true how technology is always trying to improve our lives and it always will help.

DeleteThey are very similar, I agree.

ReplyDeleteThis relates to the building of the Transcontinental Railroad, but with a new kind of train.
DeleteI like how you specified the complete improvement in technology between the 1800s and now. It is interesting that the speed has increased so much due to something as simple as magnetism. I think eventually, the majority of the trains in the U.S. will be powered by magnetism.
DeleteI know right! Who would have thought that these large trains would one day be faster than most cars.

http://www.slashgear.com/technology-conventions-arent-dying-theyre-evolving-02272200/
DeleteThanks. And yes, I think it will be beneficial because of the ways it will help in the medical field especially.

DeleteYes, there are many new innovations out there that these companies are creating that will truly revolutionize the way that people communicate with each other.

This is why Henry Ford was the first person to make the car better using new technology.

http://www.technewsdaily.com/17720-spintronics-gets-computers-running-faster.html
Modern technology has skyrocketed in the past few decades.
